The Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg is proud to announce the final results of the 2016 WMC McLellan Competition for Solo Performance with the WSO, that took place at Jubilee Place Auditorium on Friday, the 22nd April 2016! The crowd in attendance was certainly awed by the talent from each of these performers!

The evening was ably hosted by Classic 107’s Program Director – Claudia Garcia de la Huerta. The evening’s adjudicators were John Greer, an active accompanist, vocal coach, arranger, composer and conductor; Dr. Michael Kim, a Canadian concert pianist, professor and administrator; Thomas Wiebe, a well-known solo cellist and chamber musician; and jury chair Holly Harris – a Winnipeg based pianist and composer – who also is an active arts journalist, currently a classical music reviewer for the Winnipeg Free Press.

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra was led by Maestro Julian Pellicano, who is currently the Resident Conductor for the WSO.

At the conclusion of the concert – after the adjudicators determined placement – the awards totalling $20,000 were presented to these three young performers.

An enthusiastic audience was able to meet and congratulate the winners at a punch reception after the presentation of the awards.

The WMC offers congratulations to the winners, who provided the audience with an outstanding concert experience – a thrilling finish to an exciting Competition! Thank you also to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for their support of this Competition. Their involvement enhances and enriches the performance experience of the three finalists, and assists the WMC in providing performance opportunities for young Manitoba musicians as they continue their musical careers!
