The Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg announces that twelve young musicians performed before an international jury on March 14th and three were selected as finalists in the 2014 WMC McLellan Competition for Solo Performance with Orchestra.
They are (in alphabetical order):
Sarah Kirsch, soprano
Joshua Peters, violin
Tony Zhou, piano
In addition, the adjudicators were asked to choose two runners-up and the following were named:
First runner-up: Jinsung Kim, piano
Second runner-up: Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk, viola
The three finalists will rehearse with the WSO and then appear with the Orchestra in the Final Competition Concert to be held at Jubilee Place Auditorium, Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute, 180 Riverton Avenue, Winnipeg, at 7.30 pm on Friday, April 4th, 2014.
At the conclusion of the concert another set of adjudicators will rank the finalists, and they will receive awards of $10,000, $6,000 and $4,000 respectively. The public is cordially invited to come to this concert to hear some of the best young talent that Manitoba has to offer, and to meet the artists at a punch reception afterwards.
This concert is also another great opportunity to experience our city’s acclaimed Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in 2014, the year in which they appear at Carnegie Hall in New York! Please support the WSO and the talented finalists at the conclusion of the successful 2014 WMC McLellan Competition.
